I started work for the original company (Mortgage 2000) back in mid 1997. At the time, there were the founders (Simon Nixon and Duncan Cameron) and about four employees working from a terraced house in Chester.
What do you do here / job title?
I originally joined to head up our new “mortgage packaging” company. The role involved all operational duties to take the company forward from start up, which consisted of procedures, mortgage underwriting, recruitment, training, banking, building up our initial management team etc. As we’ve grown (approx 370 staff at present) I’ve taken on new duties such as starting up and now overseeing our Human Resources and Facilities departments. The latest major project is that roll out of our new extension which will house up to 200 employees.
What is the best thing about working here?
Hard to say what the best is but here’s a few of my favourites:
- Feeling of pride through being part of such a success story.
- We love bonus schemes as they allow staff to have an influence over their earnings.
- Seeing so many people progress within their careers through promotion from within wherever possible.
- Working in an environment that doesn’t follow convention, and constantly says “how can we” rather than “can’t”.
